Daily Recap, TABLA

Day Four, TABLA 2019

BY TAYLOR FAHEY | JUNIOR COUNSELOR

We wrapped up TABLA 2019 with a “Living Awesome: Community Day”. To start it off there was a college student-athlete panel where the Junior Counselors shared their experiences and answered questions.

Then the 3-on-3 Tournament of Champions was in full swing and the campers gave it everything they had!

In a competitive game that came down to the wire, against the Venice Vipers, the Factoria Falcons claimed the championship title! Congratulations to the undefeated champions: Imari Clinton, Laila Yasir, Jordan Leith, and Jewel Young!

We then split into a Parent Session for Nurturing Your Athlete’s Mental Toughness with Coach Kadee Gray, while the campers discussed and practice outreach skills about what it means to be an “athlete in the community.”

Hung up on the walls of the gym were posters made by the campers. These posters hightlighted their leadership styles in a few sentences and had a mind map to their goal. As we have seen over the course of this week, these campers are determined women, leaving no room for doubt about each one of them reaching their goals.

TABLA puts an emphasis on leadership and women empowerment. This week we learned about different leaderships styles and today campers were recognized for them. Our performance leader award was given to Jewel Young because of the way she takes charge and leads with her work ethic and voice. Our social leader was Nikki Bowen because of her focus on building strong relationships and bonds on her team. Our locker room leader was Ione Fox because of the way she takes care of her team, molding and maintaining its culture. Last but not least was our reserve leader, Jordan Leith who was the quietly respected work horse of her team, motivating without speaking.

The three dribble 1-on-1 competition was won by Ava Powell, and the fast break 1-on-1 competition winners were Jewel Young and Foai Pula.

After signing shirts and taking pictures, everyone headed to the Seattle Storm game! Seattle Storm won in a tight game against the Las Vegas Aces. Before the game and during halftime the Junior Counselors and campers sold 50/50 raffle tickets, raising over 1,500 dollars for TABLA to continue offering opportunities to aspiring young women athletes!

Junior Counselor Makana Stone put together an incredible video for TABLA that was on the big screen at the Storm game!

These past four days have been full of inspiration, growth, leadership, and sweat! Thanks to the campers who all worked so hard and learned everything they could from this camp. TABLA 2019 was a huge success!
