At a time when female voices continue to be denied, we must find new means of unifying our communities and empowering our girls and women. Please consider donating to ourFUNDRAISER to continue our work to inspire girls’ and women’s voices in sports.
Great news! As the Awesome Sports Project, a project created by Basketball Education in Action, gets ready to enter its 4th year, Best American Sports Writing series editor Glenn Stout mentioned our work in his introduction to the series! We would like to extend our most utmost thanks to our volunteer editors, website designers, graphic designers, and outreach personnel for years of important work as we fight for gender equity in sports.
In addition, two of our publication have been deemed Notable Mentions in the same anthology. Congratulations to Elisa Haggarty and her essay, “My First Love,” an Kobe-esque love letter to the game of basketball. In her words: “It had been 4 years since I stopped playing basketball competitively and so much of me missed the community it created the workouts the exhausted and empowered me. I don’t know that I had an inspiration for writing “My First Love”. Inspiration literally woke me up at 2 am on a cold day in Korea and basically punched me in the gut, forcing my weepy eyes to find a pen and paper so I could begin writing the love letter that I’ve been outlining for years.”
Congratulations to our Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Bea Chang, on her recognition for “Tales of A Woman Coach” — one of the reasons the Awesome Sports Project was launched in the first place when she couldn’t find a suitable home for her essay!
