Hi Coach Bea,
I am writing to share my experience at TABLA 2018. This was my first time going to TABLA (Team Awesome Basketball Leadership Academy) camp, and I wish it never ended!
Most of the camps I attended were mainly about practicing basketball skills and drills with hundreds of players in a gym. It was hard to really get to know anyone with these big camps and sometimes I felt like I was lost in the crowd.
TABLA offers a different basketball camp experience that isn’t only about skills and drills. One of my friends was planning to attend and told me about it. I reached out to Basketball Education in Action website and decided to sign up.
“I learned so much more than basketball at TABLA like my leadership style, identified my personality archetype, and how to promote social justice in the community.”
I am so glad I attended TABLA 2018. I learned so much, had a lot of fun, and met so many new fiends!
Day 1: I learned about my Leadership Style. I didn’t know what Leadership meant and didn’t know about leadership styles. I learned my style of leadership is “Influencer” meaning I use my influence to lead, inspire, and motivate others to improve and get better on and off the court .
Day 2: We learned about Social Justice and our responsibility to help make the world a better place. I learned that I can use my voice to “Inspire Others” and that one voice can create many more voices for positive change.
Day 3: We learned the power of working together as One. I like making other teammates better and for me as a point guard throwing assists to my teammates is just as much fun as scoring baskets.
Day 4: We created special basketball projects that can help in the community. My group came up with a project called “Shoot for Shoes” to help kids who cannot afford basketball shoes.
Day 5: We got a chance to play center court at Key Arena, home of the Seattle Storm. We practiced college basketball skills on a WNBA-sized court, played scrimmage games with Junior Counselors, and I got a chance to play for Coach Bea’s team! Coach Bea’s team balled out and we had a lot of fun and got the “W”!!
I wish TABLA camp was every week! I really enjoyed meeting new players from other clubs and getting a chance to play with current college basketball players (Junior Counselors). I learned so much more than basketball at TABLA like my leadership style, identified my personality archetype, and how to promote social justice in the community.
Thank you so much to Coach Bea, TABLA junior counselors, and to all the campers I met at TABLA 2018! I promise to come back every year if I can and when I get to be a college player, I will come back and be a Junior Counselor!
